Egypt Quiz

Egypt is widely known for its remarkable history, culture, and of course, the pyramids. The North African country is not only inspiring because of its ancient past, but also because of the people who keep its dynamic Egyptian culture alive today. Egypt’s past connects us to our modern present. Did you know that many of the inventions that are critical to our lives today come from Egypt? For example, hieroglyphics were one of the earliest forms of writing in the world. Ancient Egyptians used ink on papyrus sheets just as we now write on paper every day. Clocks are also an important Egyptian innovation. The water clock—made from a stone vessel with a hole to drip water—is one of the earliest known forms of a clock.

We can also take an example from the state of gender equality in ancient Egypt. Unlike in many ancient civilizations, women were considered equal under the law, able to run businesses, borrow money, and own property. They were also involved in a wide range of professional domains, including business, agriculture, trade, entertainment, government, and medicine.

Currently, Egypt is a diverse and thriving country. Egyptian culture and history continue to be recognized worldwide. Egypt’s two largest cities, Cairo and Alexandria, draw tourists from around the world. The top attractions in Cairo include the Pyramids of Giza, the Egyptian Museum, the Al-Ahzar Mosque, and Khan El Khalili Market. Alexandria, the original city that Alexander the Great built, also boasts some amazing sites. These include the Bibliotheca of Alexandria, and Pharos Lighthouse, one of the seven wonders of the world.
